Discourse Markers Used by Non-Native Speakers in Good Morning America Talk Show

چکیده

Discourse markers have been studied extensively in linguistics and communication studies. Its use is very helpful understanding the message conveyed, both formal informal situations. This study examines discourse used by non-native speakers Good Morning America Talk Show. Unveil types their functions, this uses a qualitative descriptive method identifying of markers. The data were taken from conversations using Biber et al (1999) theory to determine functions results showed that there are ten interjection, greetings farewells, linking adverbials, stance vocatives, response elicitors, forms, hesitators, various polite speech-act formulas expletives. Those variations as marker information management, response, connectives, cause effect, temporal adverb participation. has shown varies across languages cultures. Moreover, can also vary depending on context communication.
